CONNECTED TV SUMMIT – LONDON. The film and TV, digital and DVD rental subscription service Lovefilm would like to attract millions of new subscribers, emulating the success of Netflix in the US, according to its chief digital officer Lesley Mackenzie.
Lovefilm concluded a deal with Samsung earlier this week that makes its service accessible through a user interface on all Internet@TV Samsung TV models, with Blu-ray players and Home Cinema Systems to follow at a later date.
Lovefilm, which is present in the UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, launched a VOD service in May 2009 and currently has almost 70,000 titles for rental.
Mackenzie added that the company plans to add some “big name” TV series to its library in the future.
Commenting on Samsung’s Internet@TV platform, Vassilis Seferidis, director of business development at Samsung Electronics, said that it already has over 70 applications available.
