The price war raging in Romania’s cable industry has intensified following a new and unique initiative from RCS/RDS, the market leader.
ZF reports that the company has introduced an offer in some parts of the country in which its service is provided free of charge for up to 10 months to UPC customers who have contracts that expire no later than December this year. This will allow customers who switch from UPC to RCS/RDS to save up to €60 over a 10-month period.
UPC is understood to have been considering legal action to stop this kind of campaign before it began. It has also introduced deep price cuts in what is a three-way contest with RCS/RDS and Romtelecom, who between them account for around 80% of Romania’s cable and DTH market.
