One in ten terrestrial homes in Hungary now receive the DTT service MinDig TV, according to the platform’s operator Antenna Hungária.
Furthermore, the total number of DVB-T MPEG-4 compatible receivers in Hungarian homes at the end of Q1 was 33% higher than three months earlier, while 6% of Hungarian households had a DVB-T receiver at home.
The sale of DTT reception equipment has tripled in the last 5-6 months thanks largely to a promotional campaign and falling prices. Indeed, set-top boxes decrease in price by over 50% in 2009, followed by a further average of 18% in Q1 this year.
Jean-Francois Fenech, Antenna Hungária’s CEO, believes that reaching a 80% terrestrial household conversion rate should be a precondition for starting ASO in Hungary, as is the case in France.
