ANGA Cable 2010 – Cologne. Eutelsat has declared itself “a 3D pioneer” following the March 2009 launch of its All 3D showcase channel.
Since February 1, Eutelsat’s 3D offering has been available as a 24 hour channel. “Until now we broadcast about 75 3D programmes including live events in France and Italy,” said Marina Rutenbeck of Eutelsat Kabelkiosk.
Eutelsat targets both the 3D market at home and business-to-business to 3D cinemas. The operator is broadcasting live events to the cinemas, which can show them to the public.
The Eutelsat 3D channel broadcasts free-to-air with a bit stream of 8 Mbps on Eurobird 9A. The retail trade can use the channel for demonstration purpose at point of sale, and operators can use it as well.
“There is also cooperation with manufacturers for technical evaluation,” said Rutenbeack, “and also talks with channels are going on.”
At the ANGA Cable show, the Astra 3D demo channel was also officially launched at the 23.5 degrees East position.
