Virgin Media embarks on HD campaign

April 30, 2010 12.13 Europe/London By Julian Clover

VIDEO: Virgin Media has today launched its first TV advertising campaign to back its increasing line-up of high definition channels. Although a relative newcomer to linear channels in the HD format, Virgin has now built a portfolio of 12 channels that includes BBC HD, ITV1 HD, ESPN HD and Living HD. The cablenet is also confident that yesterday’s Competition Appeal Tribunal agreement will allow it to carry the HD versions of Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2.

The advertisement will air tomorrow with a primetime slot in Britain’s Got Talent on ITV1 and ITV1 HD. The advertisement shows a family whose living room is filled with light as they experience HD content for the first time. It ends with the tagline “Virgin Media. Amazing HD. No extra monthly fee.” The ads were created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and directed by Steve Hudson of HungryMan Films.

Ashley Stockwell, executive director of brand and marketing at Virgin Media, said: “As we make HD available to millions of people for no extra monthly fee, our new HD campaign showcases the glorious experience of watching the forthcoming football World Cup, as well as a wide range of entertainment including movies, music, drama and nature all in amazing High Definition. We continue to add to our great range of TV content, giving customers a real choice and making Virgin Media the best TV service around.”

The TV ads are part of a multi-million pound media campaign for Virgin Media, which includes TV, print, outdoor, cinema and online.

White Paper – Smart Router: The Gateway to Next-Gen Services

Predicting the future may be folly but preparing for it is vital. With the growing consensus that the network edge is about to play a much bigger role in service delivery, operators need strategies now to prevent rivals from taking a lead and internet giants from locking them out of providing next-generation services.
