Serbia’s minister of communications has refused to confirm or deny that Deutsche Telekom has expressed an interest in acquiring an interest in Telekom Srbije.
Speaking to Novosti, Jasna Matic only said that interest had been shown by “various companies from Turkey, Egypt, Germany and some others. I believe there will be more when we announce the tender.”
She added that there is no good time for the sale of what is expected to be 40% of the telco, conceding that “there will always be those who oppose it, whether a decision is made now or in five years.”
Matic also said that the winner of a future tender will be a company that offers the most money and best conditions for the further development of telecoms in Serbia. They will have to ensure that appropriate investment is made in broadband internet access in all parts of Serbia.
