ANGA Cable 2010: Stand L37
ActiveVideo Networks, a provider of Cloud TV delivery, will be demonstrating an iPhone App that is designed to transform the interactive television experience for cable subscribers at the ANGA Cable Show.
ActiveVideo will show how the iPhone Remote Control App can enable gesture-based interactivity, improved keyboarding and navigation, significantly improved search and discovery, and the ability to upload photos and intuitively control displays on the TV. The demonstration also will show how the solution – which can be used in combination with any smartphone or web device – can bring two-way functionality to existing one-way networks.
“Historically, infrared and keyboarding limitations and the need for cursor-based navigation have hindered the use and growth of interactive TV,” said Ronald Brockmann, MD, Europe for ActiveVideo Networks, in a statement. “The ActiveVideo solution enables cable system operators to create a ‘touch’-navigated enriched environment that gives consumers unparalleled control over their TV experiences — using the personal devices that the subscriber already owns.”
The ability of the solution to expand the functionality of existing one-way networks creates new revenue opportunities for cable system operators through the delivery of interactive and on-demand services to deployed set-top boxes and CI Plus modules. In addition, the solution enables operators to seamlessly offer the same content across their entire plant as they migrate from one-way devices to two-way services.
“The great number of one-way devices in Europe, has prevented many operators from capitalizing on the growth of interactivity and Video-on-Demand,” said Brockmann. “The use of iPhones and other existing connected devices as alternative remote controls in combination with Cloud TV enables operators to accelerate their ability to deliver rich interactivity and on-demand content to every subscriber, unlocking huge revenue potential for operators and content providers. This approach has lower capex and much faster deployment since there’s no new hardware nor installation visit needed.”
