Four new private broadcasters will be added to the digital terrestrial multiplexes available in the city of Hamburg. The regional media authorities (Medienrat der Medienanstalt Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein (MA HSH) have awarded licences to Das Vierte, Tele 5, Euronews, Channel 21 and QVC for a period of ten years.
The general entertainment channels Tele 5 and Das Vierte, as well as home shopping channel QVC, will each get a 24 hour channel, while Euronews and Channel 21 (the former RTL Shop) will share a channel. The newly awarded licences bring the total number of DTT channels available in the city to 28.
In Hamburg, the RTL Group and ProSiebenSat.1 each have a multiplex and other private broadcasters available free-to-air are the local channel Hamburg 1, 9Live, Bibel TV and Eurosport. The public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have three mutliplexes.
The authority also issued a DTT licence to das Vierte for the cities of Kiel and Luenbeck, where it will replace Eurosport.
