Portugal Telecom has said DTT services will reach the whole of the country by the end of the year. Currently 80% are within reach of a DTT signal.
Despite the uncertainty still surrounding the switchover process, the regulator Anacom has reiterated April 26, 2012 as the deadline for analogue switch-off. The troubled process is still in limbo after PT told Anacom that the market conditions for a pay-TV service had changed since the 2008 licensing process. PT is looking to replace is originally proposed channel bouquet with a selection of HDTV channels.
Anacom chairman José Amado da Silva told local media it was the regulator’s priority that the one and a half million families that do not subscribe to a pay-TV service did not go without television once the switchover process was completed.
