Prisa has signed an agreement that sets out the terms for the sale of a 22% stake in DTH platform Digital+ to Telecinco. The Spanish arm of Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset group will also merge its national TV network with the relative newcomer Cuatro.
A new €500 million share issue will give Prisa an 18.337 share in Telecinco together with €491.13 million in cash.
The deal remains subject to a number of conditions including the approval of the relevant authorities.
In addition to Prisa and Telecinco, the other major shareholder in Digital+ is the former Via Digital partner Telefónica, which in November 2009 paid €470 million for a 21% share in operating company Sogecable.
