SES has further expanded its activities in Africa with the announcement that it will play host to the Wananchi DTH platform in Kenya.
The company has secured three full transponders on SES World Skies NSS-12 satellite (57 degrees East). This September Wananchi, known for its popular Zuku brand of cable, broadband and IP phone services, will launch a combined DTH line-up and IP-based VSAT offer. The VSAT network will offer high-speed internet access, Voice-over-IP and videoconference.
“Wananchi is delivering a new level of broadband and IP connectivity and DTH content tailored to meet the growing consumer and business demand for information and entertainment across East Africa,” said Euan Fannell, Wananchi’s Group CEO.
Astra’s involvement in the African market includes a shareholding in South Africa-based On Digital Media.
