Cabovisao’s new customer retention and acquisition strategies have helped stem the number of subscriber losses at the Portuguese cablenet. 1,302 basic cable subscribers fell off the register in the six months to February 28, 2010, compared to 19,943 in the 2009 fiscal year. In the second quarter there was a loss of 740 customers compared to 11,908 customers in the comparable quarter.
Announcing second quarter and half-year results, Canadian parent Cogeco said net additions amounted to 21,508 RGUs and 48,121 RGUs, respectively, compared to 12,833 RGUs and 84 RGUs for the same periods of the previous year.
In a market where DTT is not yet out of the starting blocks, the threat to Cabovisao comes from the IPTV services Meo and Vodafone Portugal.
Cabovisao’s digital TV customers grew by 12,189 in the second quarter to reach 131,056 out of 267,353 homes connected.
