March 2, 2010 08.55 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Technosat and Conax have announced that they have entered a partnership to secure the new Technosat Satellite HD platform and provide HD content to exclusive markets in the MENA.

Additionally, Technosat has entered an agent agreement exclusive for ten years with Conax for delivering secure HD set-top-boxes with Conax smart cards to its customers in the MENA region. Today, Technosat delivers boxes to over 1 million users annually throughout the region. Technosat is a manufacturer and wholesaler of satellite equipment in UAE and an integrator for a complete end to end broadcast solution from head-end to encoders, multiplexors, conditional access, set top boxes and subscriber management systems for satellite, cable and terrestrial video. The new agent contract with Conax supersedes a long time partnership with another security provider.

With regional headquarters in Dubai, Technosat has offices in 20 locations with its 300 dealers in the MENA and CIS countries. Conax’ global footprint includes a global network of partners and customer operations in 80 countries.

“In addition to Conax’ impressive security record, Technosat chose Conax as its security partner based on the very positive cooperation for establishing a Satellite HD platform in the MENA region,” said Mr. Irshad Contractor, CEO, Technosat, in a statement. “We firmly believe that through our partnership with Conax, Technosat can realize further expansion of its business and become the driving force for development of HD in the MENA region.”

“Conax is quite pleased to enter this partnership with market leader Technosat, says Mr. Geir Bjørndal, EVP Product & Markets, Conax. In addition to providing security for the new Technosat HD platform, the cooperation places Conax in a unique position to broaden its business in the MENA region, given the potential of growing regional opportunities. Conax will be open to assisting regional operators establish simulcrypt operations.”
