The Romanian DTH platform Dolce ended 2009 with 884,136 subscribers, or 37.5% more than at the start of the year.
Its operator Romtelecom, which is backed by Greece’s OTE, also had 807,362 broadband subscribers at year’s end, 24.1% more than 12 months earlier.
Although Romtelecom launched an IPTV service with interactive VOD capability named Dolce Interactiv at the end of last year, subscriber figures for it are not yet available.
Romtelecom’s revenues in Q4 2009 amounted to €198.3 million and were 7.1% down on a year earlier. Its operating loss meanwhile grew from €21.8 million to €35.5 million.
Like other telco providers, Romtelecom was hard hit by a slump in the Romanian economy in the latter part of 2009.
Its strategy is to increase RGUs and the DTH platform Dolce continues to perform well, being the second most successful in the country after RCS/RDS-owned Digi.
Dolce’s revenues rose by 87% in 2009.
