Belgacom’s IPTV service added 246,000 new customers in 2009, bringing the net total of connected homes to 752,000. There were 89,000 new subscribers added in the last quarter.
The company said it is now in the top 3 of successful IPTV providers. The service has a potential reach of 87.2% of the Belgian population and has become a formidable competitor to traditional cable with its aggressive marketing campaigns.
The “free TV” offer, in particular, with so-called “packs” has been a success in the market, attracting new customers for the television product. ARPU for the TV homes went up by a record 5% to €20.40 a month. About 100,000 homes take a second IPTV stream.
