The Hungarian incumbent telco Magyar Telekom saw its TV subscriber total grow by 38% to 630,413 in 2009, thanks largely to the success of the company’s DTH operation.
This began 2009 with 5,338 customers and ended the year with 156,142 – an increase of 2,825.1%.
The telco’s IPTV subscriber total grew by a more modest 136.6% to 67,430, while the number of cable subscribers fell by 3.8% to 406,841.
However, blended ARPU for the TV segment as a whole was also down, the HUF3,280 (€12.1) figure for 2009 being 7.3% lower than a year earlier.
Magyar Telekom also saw its retail DSL and cable broadband subscriber totals rise in 2009, by 7.6% and 19.7% to 435,558 and 152,878 respectively.
The telco’s revenues as a whole in 2009 were down by 4.3% to HUF644 billion, while EBITDA fell by 7.2% to HUF249.1 billion.
