Romtelecom is on track to become the fourth largest cable operator in Romania after RCS/RDS, UPC and Digital Cable Systems (Akta).
ZF has confirmed previous reports that the OTE-backed incumbent telco, through its subsidiary Nextgen Communications, has signed a contract with New Com for the acquisition of networks in over 100 locations. These encompass some 70,000 subscribers, and when incorporated into Nextgen’s existing operations will bring its subscriber total up to 100,000.
The transaction is understood to be worth at least $6.3 million (€4.6 million).
Romtelecom already operates Dolce, the second most successful DTH platform on the Romanian market after RCS/RDS-owned Digi.It also launched an IPTV service in December last year.
