The Lithuanian incumbent telco TEO LT has criticised plans to reduce analogue transmission costs in the country.
Quoted in VZ, company spokesman Anton Bubnelis said this was discrimination for a certain technology and, if anything, “more favourable conditions should be applied in particular to digital TV channel broadcasting. This would allow the creation of new, improved services and ensure a smooth transition to digital TV in 2012.”
The decision to reduce analogue transmission costs has been made by the state-owned Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (LRTC), which is under new management.
TeliaSonera-backed TEO meanwhile is one of the main players in Lithuania’s transition to digital broadcasting, operating IPTV and DTT platforms that both use the brand name GALA.
