Romania’s TV market is about to become even more competitive, with RCS/RDS, its leading cable and DTH operator, set to add HD channels to its offer.
According to ZF, they are likely to be rolled out in the same way as mobile services were by the company. Namely, they will first be trialled in Oradea, which is the hometown of RCS/RDS’s owner Zoltan Teszari, and then launched commercially both there and in other large cities around the country.
However, customers writing on forums say that Digi Sports, Eurosport and Discovery can already be received in HD in Oradea, and there are indications that those in other cities, including Bucharest, are now also able to view some HD channels.
RCS/RDS’s main competitors UPC and Romtelecom have already added HD channels to their offers, in the former instance last autumn.
