Motorola has sold its cable modem business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa to the Taiwanese manufacturer Compal Electronics, the company has confirmed.
The move suggests that the sale of the remainder of the Home and Networks Mobility division, mooted in November, is still a distinct possibility. The unit also produces set-top boxes and wireless network devices.
No financial details have been released, though Avian Securities analyst Matthew Thornton told Reuters that the European cable modem business brought in annual revenues in the region of $50 million (€34.4m).
