New customer retention and acquisition strategies have begun to pay off for the Portuguese cablenet Cabovisão. The moves were introduced by Canadian parent Cogeco at the end of the 2009 fiscal year – the end of August 2009 on the Gregorian calendar – in a bid to reduce churn brought about by the combination of the competitive landscape and the economic environment.
An additional 26,613 Revenue Generating Units (RGUs) were added in the three months to November 30, 2009 compared to a loss of 12,749 in the corresponding period 12 months previous. A total of 758,988 RGUs are derived from 268,202 homes connected.
Basic cable subscribers reduced by 562 compared to a loss of 8,035 the previous year and reaching 258,918. Digital TV customers grew by 16,114 to 118,867, while 5,852 telephony customers were added compared to a loss of 4,902 customers for the same period of the preceding year, ringing up a total of 232,380.
