Poland’s leading DTH platform Cyfrowy Polsat has launched a near-video-on-demand (N-VOD) service. According to the company, it will offer 30 new movies a month and a total of over 320 a year.
An entire transponder has been allocated to the Push VOD service, which will occupy 16 satellite channel slots from the Eutelsat Hot Bird neighbourhood and be available to over 3.5 million subscribers and users of Cyfrowy Polsat decoders throughout the country.
Rather than require customers to have a PVR, Polsat has instead opted for a near-video-on-demand platform, movies typically rotating every 30 minutes. Customers will be able to order via the company’s website, infoline, SMS and sales points.
Movies will be divided into three separate categories: New, each costing PLN11 (€2.64) for a 24-hour period; Hits PLN8; and Catalogue PLN5, or PLN20 for a whole month.
Although titles will initially be supplied by Monolith Films, Cyfrowy Polsat says that talks with major studios are currently ongoing.
Separately, Cyfrowy Polsat which shortly begin providing its subscribers with broadband internet access using HSPA+, the wireless technology capable of offering speeds of around 21 Mbps.
