Seven out of ten Spanish households now have access to digital terrestrial television, according to data prepared for Impulsa TDT by the research organisation Sofres. This takes DTT penetration to 70% of the country.
The pace of conversion is also picking up, with a quarter of Spanish home converting to digital reception in the first nine months of the year. This follows concerns over the number of households that were leaving the purchase until the last minute.
679,820 DTT receivers were sold during August, bringing cumulative sales to 21.8 million units. However, despite the impending analogue switch off in April 2010, some 78,000 analogue displays were sold between January and August 2009.
IDTVs continue to outstrip the number of external decoders sold; 411,900 in August compared to 268,000 set-top boxes.
