The number of subscribers to the Spanish DTH platform Digital+ has fallen for the sixth successive quarter.
As of September 30, 2009 the number of subscribers to the satcaster stood at 1,899,216, compared to 1,930,793 in July 2009, and 2,080,000 in March 2008. ARPU (Average Revenue Per Unit) has also come under pressure amid falling revenues from pay-per-view events, particularly football, after the end of the so-called “football war” resulted in a split in the sale of the rights.
At the end of the third quarter ARPU stood at €39.3 including a €1.3 contribution from PPV, this compares to €36.9 and €4.6 in the second quarter, and €38.4 and €3.2 in the third quarter of 2008. New products such as the iPlus PVR, launched in August 2007, have helped shore up the ARPU as subscriber revenues fell by 11.4% to €760.95 million.
In the first nine months of 2009 Digital+ contributed EBITDA of €259.05m to the Prisa cause.
