Competition in the Hungarian telco sector is set to intensify in the next few years, according to Betzalel Kenigsztein, the new CEO of UPC Hungary. In a wide-ranging interview in the publication VG, he added that simple price competition was no basis for long-term planning and that UPC would continue to improve on the diversity and quality of its services, offered at appropriate and accessible prices.
Kenigsztein added that UPC Hungary’s digital TV service, launched last year, was now received in over 120,000 homes, with over a third of these accessing such additional services as DVRs and HD channels.
Furthermore, the 120 Mbps internet access it now offers is 240 times faster than that 6-8 years ago.
The next stage will be the introduction of catch-up TV and channels on demand in 2010.
