The Polish cable operator Stream Communications plans to increase its digital TV subscriber total by up to 50% within the next two months.
Speaking exclusively to Broadband TV News, Vladimir Petrzilka, Stream’s COO and VP, said that the operator currently has over 180,000 homes passed and over 100,000 subscribers in 24 cities throughout Poland, half of which are in Silesia. Of these, 85% have access to triple play and digital TV.
The number of digital subscribers currently stands at just under 10,000 and should rise to between 13-15,000 by year’s end.
Petrzilka added that 10% of channels carried by Stream in its digital offer are in HD and that 25% of digital subscribers have HD boxes.
Some 3-5% also have PVRs, and while the company does not yet offer VOD it may introduce a service towards the end of 2010 if market conditions are favourable.
Stream is majority owned by Penta Investments, with Stream Canada holding a minority stake in the company.
