Romania’s Romtelecom is looking to neighbouring Greece as it prepares to launch its long-awaited IPTV operation.
ZF reports that the telco may adopt the same technical solution as that of its parent company OTE, which plans to make IPTV available to Greek subscribers with internet access speeds as low as 2 Mbps.
At present OTE’s Conn-x TV, offering over 35 TV channels and VOD, is made available for €15 a month to subscribers with internet access at speeds of 8 or 24 Mbps.
Adopting the technology would automatically make Romtelecom’s IPTV service, which might make its debut before the end of this year, much more affordable to subscribers, given that they are currently charged €4.9 a month for 2 Mbps internet access and €14.1 for 8 Mbps.
