Canal Overseas is to deploy a new version of NDS MediaHighway and a Flash-based EPG for the first personal video recorder to be launched for its service across the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. It will later be extended to French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa and the South Pacific.
The international arm of the Canal+ Group has deployed a version of MediaHighway that allows subscribers to upgrade to personal video recorder functionality through the addition of an external hard drive.
Canal Overseas will rent its subscribers a Western Digital 500 GB hard drive that will connect to the dual tuner Pace set-top box through its USB port.
“The delivery of the PVR service and Flash EPG is a great achievement. With the PVR, we offer a service most appreciated and expected by our customers. Indeed the PVR service will change their way of consuming television and allow them to make the most of their subscription,” said Marc Noblet, chief technology officer of Canal Overseas.
The Flash-based EPG design and production was the result of collaboration between Canal Overseas, the Polish Canal+ Cyfrowy, NDS design studios in Paris and NDS’ R&D facility in India.
