ADB is launching a new HD receiver for the Italian terrestrial market. Available under the i-CAN brand, it will enable viewers to watch Mediaset’s HD broadcasts of the Serie A.
Mediaset closes up adjacent channels in order to make room for Premium Calcio HD, but in areas where digital switchover has been completed, dedicated HD channels are being made available.
The i-CAN3810T-HD supports the pre-pay and subscription systems used by Mediaset for its terrestrial channels.
“Italian viewers have demonstrated their desire to see premium pay TV content on digital terrestrial TV, and it is natural that they should now want to watch these programs in high definition on their new flatscreen TV sets,” comments Eugenio Pettazzi, head of Digital Terrestrial Operations at Mediaset.
Under the Italian receiver labelling system, the i-CAN3810T-HD will carry the Gold label, meaning it is suitable for free, pay, HD, MPEG-4 and MPEG-2. It also supports conditional access and the MHP middleware.
