The Spanish regulator CMT has imposed a 25% reduction on the cost of wholesale broadband services offered by the incumbent telco Telefónica.
It is the third and highest cut imposed by CMT since December 2006, and in the regulator’s view should improve competition in the broadband sector.
The CMT has also cut the wholesale monthly price of a shared loop by 31.3%.
Earlier this year the CMT published the results of a study that concluded that the cost of the best broadband offer in the 2-10 Mbps category in Spain at the end of 2008 was 11.7% higher than the EU average.
