IBC 2009 – Amsterdam. Virgin Media is to upgrade its digital TV distribution infrastructure using the Cisco Digital Video Headend.
The technology is being deployed right across Virgin’s regional and central headends, running Cisco IP core and edge network technologies across the UK cablenet’s national fibre-optic network. Around 12.6 million homes, or half of the population, will be served by the upgraded network.
Cisco’s Advanced Video Services Group is providing full installation and system integration. The simplified infrastructure will help with the rollout of Virgin’s new HD services. The cablenet is hoping to increase its current count to 30 in 2010 following the completion of its delay analogue switch-off.
