IBC 2009: Stand 1.C61
Multi-screen looks like being the key trend of IBC 2009 and Harmonic has announced a batch of product enhancements to enable video delivery to the TV, PC, iPhone and other mobile devices.
These include the ProStream stream processing platform, Carbon Server transcoding software and the MediaPrism software suite to complete the multi-screen video delivery. The latest version of MediaPrism is already undergoing operator trials in a number of markets.
Harmonic will continue with demonstrations in its ‘traditional’ areas of cable IPTV, universal edgeQAM and HFC access. Exhibiting as part of the Harmonic family will be Scopus, the video business acquired earlier this year following what Harmonic’s David Price described as “one of the fastest integrations I have ever seen”.
The functionality of Harmonic’s ProStream 1000 stream processing platform has been enhanced through ACE (Agile Compression Engine), which can support the transcoding of up to 20 HD or 80 SD channels. It also carries an “Any-to-Many” functionality with multiple output streams per input service simultaneously supports broadcast digital simulcast/triplecast, SDV and VOD services. “Operators want flexibility because they just don’t know what’s coming next,” says Price of the new product.
First shipments of ACE will begin later this year.
