Norwegian browser developer Opera has announced plans to enter the Connected TV field. The company has released Opera Devices SDK 10, which it has designed as a web technology based toolkit, bringing the web and widgets to TV displays and other connected devices.
Included is hardware acceleration, designed to speed up the rendering of webpages, applications or user interfaces (UIs). It has also extended its support for silicon platforms, the technology being pre-ported to popular TV platforma including Intel’s CE3100 and the STMicroelectronics ST7105 chipsets.
“The TV experience is becoming more interactive, and Opera is playing a central role in creating that experience,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “With Opera Devices SDK 10, we have developed a seamless marriage of the Web and TV. Opera provides the framework for your TV experience, and with Web technology, the kind of compelling content that the consumer wants is easy to create.”
The company said it continued to work with the IPTV World Forum to reach common strategic goals.
