Video interview. Telenor Satellite Broadcasting is in the last few weeks of preparation for the launch of Thor 6. The latest addition to the One West fleet will take the number of homes served to over three million once the move of UPC Direct is complete. A further 4.7 million homes are connected through local cable headends.
“Thor 6 has two roles, partly as a replacement for Thor 3, and there is also some growth capacity on there,” explained Robert Wise, Strategy Director, Telenor Satellite Broadcasting in a Broadband TV News/Videonet interview. “A lot of the anticipated growth is going to come from the platforms that are already there. In addition to UPC Direct, there will also be more HD, more international channels, and more national channels from the markets that we already serve”.
Thor 6 is currently undergoing its final checks before shipment to Kourou, French Guiana. Ariane 5 is scheduled to launch in late October/Early November, allowing Thor 6 to enter commercial service at the end of December 2009.
