The ‘new’ French digital terrestrial channels again gained market share at the expense of the ‘traditional’ broadcasters, according to the latest research from Médiamétrie.
During the month of August, the share of the main channels, TF1, France 2, France 3, Canal+, M6, France 5 and Arte, was 71.0%, as compared with 72.4% in July and 77.1% in August of last year.
The digital channels reached 29.0%. TF1 remained the market leader with 26.7%, which was 1% more than in July, but 1% less than in August 2008.
France 2 remained the runner-up, but lost 2.3% as compared with last year, and reached 15.4%.
France 3 was in third position and reached 12.2% (down 2.5%), M6 reached 10.1% (slightly up with 0.3%).
France 5 claimed 3.3% (up from 2.7% in August 2008).
From the remaining channel, TMC and W9 are the best watched with each 2.6% of the total audinece share; Canal+ has 2.5%, and Arte 1.9%.
