The Danish Radio and Television Board (Radio- og tv-nævnet) has issued 220 new licences for local television that become active after the October 31 ASO.
The Board had received 303 applications for the licences that were decided based on original production, the breadth of the proposed content, and their financial ability to deliver on their promises.
Nationwide channels include programmes of broad appeal, and narrower interests such as, climate, women, children, families and ethnic groups. Local programmes will by their nature concentrate on community issues.
The new stations will take up capacity in Multiplex 1 on the new Danish digital system. At present 150 local non-commercial stations broadcast in the analogue format.
