Canal+ has announced plans for a new film channel that will focus on content from the Nordic region.
Debuting on October 1, SF-kanalen will draw on productions made by Svensk Filmindustris over the last 30 years. The schedule will feature children’s, family films, comedy, drama and suspense.
“Now Canal+ subscribers will have access to good Swedish movies across all genres, all day,” said Mats Örbrink, Nordic program director, Canal+.
Over the years Svensk Filmindustri has featured the work of Astrid Lindgren, Lasse Åberg, Colin Nutley, Van Veeteren, Ingmar Bergman, Hans Alfredson and Tage Danielsson. It has also been a long term partner of Canal+, working on co-productions including the 2005 Wallender series, which has gained international distribution on the back of the more recent BBC dramatisation.
SF-kanalen will join a line-up of 10 genre-specific movie and sports channels in the TV4-owned Canal+ bouquet in the Nordic region.
