The new Austrian regional broadcaster Servus TV plans a September launch on the Astra satellite at 19 degrees East in both SD and HD. The channel will also be available locally on cable and DVB-T.
The channel is part of the Red Bull energy drinks company and plans to broadcast free-to-air. Programming will include magazine programmes about the international arts and artist scenes, live concerts from opera houses and concert halls, as well as discussion programmes.
Unlike other private broadcasters from Austria such as Puls TV, ATV and Austria 9 TV, the new channel has decided to broadcast free-to-air. It is looking for international distribution as well on cablenets across German language territories.
In Austria, Servus TV also has a regional DVB-T licence. Following the take-over by the Red Bull company the former Salzburg TV channel hopes to attract sufficient advertising and sponsorship money.
