RGB Networks is concentrating on the maximising of bandwidth, enabling the delivery of more HD and VOD, and new revenues through targeted advertising.
The Dynamic Bandwidth Manager uses RGB’s patented ‘transrating’ technology that enables operators to deliver 50% more VOD streams on existing QAMs. Drop-in network upgrade relieves ‘hotspot’ congestion leading to what the company describes as ‘dramatic’ bandwidth savings.
Targeted advertising has been a feature at US cable shows for the past few years, but the European market does not carry as many ad avails, and there is no agreement with Virgin Media and Sky for insertion into the UK’s key channels. VOD and the use of IPTV will lead to new opportunities and RGB will be hoping that this provides an opening for its Modular Video Processor.
The unified IPTV delivery platform supports a variety of video processing functions in both MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 formats. Zoned ad insertion enables commercials to be delivered to specific geographic areas.
