The Romanian incumbent telco Romtelecom has re-entered the country’s cable market, four years after selling Cable Vision of Romania to UPC for a reported €8 million.
In what is a surprise development, ZF says that New Com, one of the leading alternative telcos in Romania, has sold some of its networks to both a subsidiary of Romtelecom and to RCS/RDS in separate deals.
However, the deals are not recent, having been concluded in March (Romtelecom) and July (RCS/RDS).
New Com is backed by Capital Partners and has effectively sold 30,000 subscribers each to Romtelecom and to RCS/RDS.
It has been left with 70,000 in a few key locations including Transylvania and the capital, Bucharest.
