Rovi has signed a patent licensing agreement with Kabel Deutschland. It falls under the recent understanding between NDS and Rovi, signed at the end of April, in which NDS signed a multi-year licence for the use of patents held by the former Macrovision.
“We are pleased to announce KDG as another NDS customer to benefit from our new patent licence agreement with Rovi,” said Gorm Nielsen, senior vice president, business development, NDS. “We believe that operators will benefit from the option to license Rovi’s EPG patents alongside NDS’ own leading technology and service offerings, part of our ongoing effort to help operators and providers bring a richer viewing experience to their audiences.”
Kabel Deutschland selected NDS as an end-to-end technology provider in April.
In recent months Rovi has signed a number of European licensing agreements with operators including Canal+, BSkyB, Portugal Telecom, Sky Italia and UPC Broadband.
