The Romanian regulator ANCOM and Competition Council (CC) have signed an agreement to ensure competition in the provision of electronic communications, broadcasting and postal services.
According to Media Expres, it will have a bearing on the controversial NetCity project, which envisages the construction of a fibre-optic network in Bucharest at a cost of some €200 million.
The CC is in favour of NetCity “in principle”, as it should lead to competition amongst cable operators.
However, it has expressed its concerns about the creation of a monopoly at the network level.
Concerns about NetCity have also been expressed by – amongst others – the EC.
The CC will issue a statement on NetCity, as requested by the EC, by September 21.
