Zon leads triple play charge

July 31, 2009 09.00 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

zonPortugal’s Zon Multimedia is now the fastest growing triple play operator in Europe.

Results published by the company show that it ended Q2 with 391,000 of its customers receiving pay-TV, broadband and voice services, as opposed to 153,300 a year earlier.

Triple play subscribers represented 33% of Zon’s cable customer base, with around 23% receiving pay-TV plus broadband or pay-TV plus voice services.

As of the end of Q2, there were 285,400 installed HD Zon boxes or 101,500 more than just three months earlier.

Furthermore, 1.3 million households had already been upgraded to internet access at speeds of up to 100 Mbps, with the figure expected to rise to 2.8 million, or over 90% of the network, by the end of the year.

Zon’s net income in H1 meanwhile amounted to €29.1 million, or 29.2% less than in the first half of 2008. Its blended ARPU was up by 4.5% year-on-year at €33.1.
