Dutch DTT subscribers are reeling at the thought of paying over 20% more for reception of the Digitenne package.
Owners KPN said the cost of a basic subscription will rise to €8.50 per month from the present €7.50. Additional receivers attract a premium of a further €4 per month.
The majority of channels on the Dutch DTT system are encrypted; the exception being the three channels under the umbrella of public broadcaster NOS, and regional television. Digitenne’s line-up consists of 23 TV channels and 19 radio stations.
As of June 30, 2009, Digitenne had 830,000 subscribers, representing around 23% of the Dutch digital television market and 12% of the total television market.
