The number of domestic broadband internet subscribers in Russia stood at 9.436 million as of this May, or 1.7% more than a month earlier, according to data produced by Advanced Communications and Media.
As a result, broadband internet penetration in the country stood at 17.6 users per 100 households.
In Moscow, the total number of broadband subscribers amounted to 2.78 million, while in St Petersburg it stood at 951,000.
Comstar-UTS was the leading provider in Moscow (803,000, representing a 29% market share), followed by Akado (570,000; 20.5%), while in St Petersburg three companies – North West Telecom, National Telecommunications (Russia’s largest cable operator) and InterZet together accounted for 60% of subscribers.
ER Telecom, another leading cable operator, gained more broadband subscribers (156,000) than any other provider this May.
