The transition to digital broadcasting has got under way in earnest in Spain.
El Pais reports that a total of 4.3 million people are now without analogue TV following the switch off of transmitters in the western part of Cantabria last Saturday (June 27) night.
The next stage of the switch off process will take place in Huelva and Las Palmas Gran Canaria, and by December 31 affect 14 million people.
Although DTT signals already reach 95.09% of the population, only 58.7% of households have DTT receivers. The highest take-up is in Madrid (68.5%) and lowest in the Basque Country (40%).
Spain aims to complete ASO in April 2010.
