The Polish Senate has made around 50 amendments to the country’s forthcoming media law.
At the same time, according to Gazeta Prawna, it has dismissed a proposal contained within the legislation that would guarantee the public broadcaster TVP an annual subsidy of around PLN800 million (€177.3 million).
Instead, the amount to be allocated to the media will be determined by the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) and specifically to TVP and its radio counterpart by the Sejm (parliament).
The subsidy will replace receiver licence fees from 2010, while at the same time TVP will continue to earn revenues from advertising.
The new media law will now be returned to the Sejm for further discussion.
