The leading Latvian cable operator Baltkom has restated its commitment to the introduction of digital TV services the country.
Baltkom missed out in its bid to secure a DTT licence, which was awarded to the TeliaSonera-backed incumbent telco Lattelecom earlier this year.
Baltkom still believes the decision by the Ministry of Transport to award the licence to the telco is “questionable”, given that the cable operator had already been undertaking DTT tests since 2007, offering programming to over 10,000 homes within a radius of 100km of the capital, Riga.
Baltkom claims to be the leading digital TV provider in Latvia, offering digital cable services to around 40,000 of its subscribers.
