BT is looking to shore up its knowledge of the pay-TV market following the departure of Dan Marks as CEO of BT Vision. Former Sky CEO Tony Ball will join the BT board as a non-executive director from July 16.
“The convergence of the computer and the television, entertainment and communications has only just begun and it is clear BT will have an important part to play in shaping the future. I am looking forward to being part of that journey, commented Ball.
For the past four years Ball has been chairman of the advisory board at Kabel Deutschland and is also a non-executive director at Spanish cablenet ONO.
Before beginning his four-year tenure as CEO of BSkyB in 1999, Ball spent a number of years working in the United States where he was CEO of Fox/Liberty Networks. He began his career as a broadcast engineer at Thames Television.
In recent months he has been linked with the chairmanship of troubled commercial broadcaster ITV.
