Kabel BW takes Harmonic VOD

May 26, 2009 06.47 Europe/London By Julian Clover

ANGA CABLE 2009 – COLOGNE. Germany’s Kabel Baden Württemberg (Kabel BW) has picked solutions from Harmonic and eventIS to power its video-on-demand service, scheduled for a commercial trial in late 2009.

Harmonic is powering the complete VOD delivery infrastructure, providing its StreamLiner 2000 video servers, Armada intelligent asset manager, CLEARcut offline content preparation, Rhozet Carbon Coder universal transcoding, NSG 9000 universal edgeQAMs, ProStream 1000 stream processing platform and NMX Digital Service Manager. Kabel BW has also elected the eventIS TRAXIS, SPECTRIS and PRODIS VOD back-office products.

“VOD, HD, multi-screen video and time-shifted applications offer operators innovative ways to deliver video to consumers whose viewing patterns are changing,” said Ian Graham, Vice President of EMEA Sales and Service for Harmonic. “Kabel BW’s deployment of Harmonic’s end-to-end video delivery solution including VOD software and video servers, combined with the eventIS platform, reflects our focus on enabling advanced video services with a comprehensive yet easily integrated portfolio of high performance IP-based solutions.”

”Harmonic and eventIS together provide Kabel BW with an advanced and flexible VOD system solution that can scale as the service grows for years to come. At eventIS, we are committed to providing high quality back office solutions for a variety of VOD functionalities, enabling a highly compelling VOD experience,” said Erwin Van Dommelen, CEO of eventIS.

Delegates will have an opportunity to see Harmonic’s VOD product range at ANGA Cable, which opens today, and runs until Thursday.
